Rotunda offers Gestational Surrogacy in India to people of all nationalities. All couples including lesbian and gay couples and even single men and single women can avail this facility to fulfill their dream of enjoying parenthood.
Requirements of egg and sperm donors: donors are tested to confirm they are free of HIV, hepatitis B and C infections, sexually transmitted diseases, hypertension and other diseases.
Requirements for the surrogate mother: Rotunda can provide Indian surrogates recruited through advertisements in local newspapers. All surrogates taken into the program are between 21-35 years of age. They are married with previous normal deliveries and healthy babies. The surrogate is also run through HIV and other infectious disease screening, other serological screening , and Thalessemia screening.
Rotunda starts the surrogate on Estrogen tablets to prepare her endometrium from the first day of her menses. Subsequently, Gonadotropin injections will be started for the genetic mother from day 1 of her menses. The genetic mother will be taking an injection daily for approximately 10 days by which time she will have formed mature eggs in both her ovaries. The egg pick-up will be around Day 13 and the genetic father will be required to give his semen sample on that day. An ultrasound guided embryo transfer will be done for the surrogate by Day 15. She will then be on certain tablets & injections for luteal support and a pregnancy test done 15 days later will confirm if she is pregnant.
The intended parents will need to visit the clinic at least twice. The first visit is for a maximum of fifteen days initially to undergo the IVF cycle. The subsequent visit is directly around the expected date of confinement of the surrogate.
Regular updates about the surrogate's progress are provided by email. The surrogate will be under the care of Rotunda's efficient obstetricians till term and then delivered in a hospital, often Hirandani hospital. The baby will be handed to the Genetic parents/Intended parent immediately after birth.
The birth certificate will be issued in the name of the Genetic parents/Intended parent. You will need to find out prevailing laws in your country or from your respective consulate in Mumbai to facilitate and expedite the process for you to carry your baby back to your hometown.
Rotunda has worked with couples from many countries including US, UK, Israel, Bahamas, Spain, Canada etc. In fact, they have a special program for international patients called The Rotunda Overseas IVF Patient (ROIP) Program. Rotunda has access to a team that takes care of visitors from the time they set foot at the airport and provides assistance in matters including hotel bookings, hospital stay arrangements, ticketing and visa, local transport, sightseeing etc.
Rotunda customizes the program for each patient, rather than taking a one-size-fits all approach, which has ensured a good success rate for the facility. Self reported surrogacy success rates improved from 36% in 2000 to 51% in 2007.
(Note that the exchange rate fluctuates but that US$1 = approx Rs 45)
